JULIANNE MOORE TO RECEIVE “CINEMACON® VANGUARD AWARD”

LIONSGATE TO RELEASE MOORE’S UPCOMING FILMS “THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2” & “FREEHELD”

WASHINGTON D.C.  (March 31, 2015) – Oscar winner Julianne Moore will receive the “CinemaCon® Vanguard Award” it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon. CinemaCon, the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), will be held April 20 - 23, 2015 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Moore will be presented with this special honor at the “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, April 23, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.

“With over three decades on the big and small screen and roles in over 60 feature films Julianne Moore has drawn moviegoing audiences in with her portrayals of an array of diverse characters in such memorable films as ‘Boogie Nights,’ ‘The Big Lebowski,’ ‘The Hours’ ‘The Kids Are All Right’ and ‘Still Alice’ to name just a few,” noted Neuhauser. “Her work on the big screen is unmatched and with this year’s upcoming releases of ‘Freeheld’ and ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’ she will continue to entertain, enlighten, educate and captivate us all. We could not be more honored to be able to present her with this year’s ‘CinemaCon Vanguard Award.’”

Moore stars as District 13 President and leader of the rebellion Alma Coin in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.” The blockbuster Hunger Games franchise has taken audiences by storm around the world, grossing more than $2.2 billion at the global box office. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 now brings the franchise to its powerful fourth chapter in which Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) now fully realizes the stakes are no longer just for survival -- they are for the future.

With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her.  The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.

Moore is also set to star in “Freeheld”  based on the Oscar®-winning short documentary and adapted by the writer of Philadelphia. “Freeheld” is the true love story of Laurel Hester (Moore) and Stacie Andree (Ellen Page) and their fight for justice. A decorated New Jersey police detective, Laurel is diagnosed with cancer and wants to leave her hard earned pension to her domestic partner, Stacie. However the county officials, Freeholders, conspire to prevent Laurel from doing this. Hard-nosed detective Dane Wells (Michael Shannon), and activist Steven Goldstein (Steve Carell), unite in Laurel and Stacie’s defense, rallying police officers and ordinary citizens to support their struggle for equality.

Among her numerous accolades throughout her career in film, television, on stage and as a NY-Times Bestselling author, Academy Award® and Emmy® winning actress Julianne Moore is the ninth person in Academy history to receive two Oscar® nominations in the same year and the only American actress to be awarded top acting prizes at the Cannes, Berlin and Venice film festivals. Julianne is an Artist Ambassador for SAVE THE CHILDREN US Programs, is on the Advisory Council of The Children's Health Fund, and is a supporter of Planned Parenthood and the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance.
