STRANGE TIDES “WASH UP” CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW ON WATERFRONTS AROUND THE WORLD AS MADAME TUSSAUDS CELEBRATES A GLOBAL PIRATE INVASION

$300,000 Figure “Sets Sail” from The Venetian

(Las Vegas, NV, May 12, 2011)---Madame Tussauds is celebrating an exciting new addition to its A-list line up as wax figures of Johnny Depp portrayed as Disney's “Pirates of the Caribbean's” Captain Jack Sparrow, arrive at nine of its attractions, including Madame Tussauds Las Vegas today (Thursday, May 12).

In true pirate style, the arrival will be something of an invasion as the stunningly realistic wax figures appear in iconic waterfront locations in cities around the world.   In Las Vegas, the maverick swashbuckler turned up this morning at The Venetian Outdoor Gondolas.

The one day “invasion” will also see Captain Jack Sparrow appear in Hong Kong’s historic harbour, on the shores of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, on the banks of Amsterdam’s legendary canals, Coney Island in New York, by a Gondola in the famous Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, a riverside location in Berlin with Television Tower in the background, in the Healing Garden at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and finally in the Washington DC attraction followed by a downtown DC pirate flash mob.

“We are delighted that Captain Jack Sparrow is joining us to celebrate the release of Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” said Rosita Chapman, General Manger, Madame Tussauds Las Vegas.  “We have transformed our figure of Johnny Depp into his Pirate’s character down to the last detail, from braided hair and bejewelled fingers to colourful costume and trademark bandana.   He looked very at home at The Venetian canal, but he’s now taken up residence on dry land here at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas.”

It took 3 months to transform the figures into character with a dedicated team of hair and make up experts and stylists working to replicate the distinctive look of one of the most popular movie characters of recent years.  Now the public will be able put on its best pirate swagger and measure up to Captain Jack Sparrow in special themed pirate settings at Madame Tussauds attractions around the world.
