Distinguished Journalists and Filmmakers to Select Winners in Jackpot Premieres, Pioneer Documentaries and Short Films Categories
LAS VEGAS — CineVegas has announced the members of the three different juries who will be judging the films for the 11th annual Festival, which will be held June 10 – 15, 2009 at the Palms Casino Resort and Brenden Theatres in Las Vegas, NV. The juries are comprised of esteemed journalists and filmmakers who will bring their diverse backgrounds to the award selection process. Awards will be announced on Sunday, June 14 at the Honorees Reception and Filmmaker Awards Ceremony at Rain Nightclub at the Palms Casino Resort.

“We are thrilled by the unbelievable caliber of jury members who will be participating in CineVegas this year,” said CineVegas Artistic Director Trevor Groth. “While each juror will be bringing his or her own unique background to the Festival, each is highly regarded in the film world, and we are honored to have all of them judging our films.”

This year’s jurors include:

Jackpot Premieres Jury
- Eugene Hernandez (Editor-in-chief and co-founder: indieWIRE)
- Jody Hill (Writer/Director: THE FOOT FIST WAY, OBSERVE AND REPORT)
- Christy Lemire (Film critic: The Associated Press)
- Glenn Whipp (Film journalist: Los Angeles Times, Variety, Premiere, USA Today, Life)

Pioneer Documentaries Jury
- Heather Rae (Producer: FROZEN RIVER, Director: TRUDELL)
- Sharon Swart (Senior Editor of features: Variety)
- Bob Tourtellotte (Editor-in-Charge, Entertainment: Reuters news service)

Short Films Jury
- Emily Doe (Associate Editor/Producer: Wholphin)
- Britta Erickson (Festival Director: Denver Film Society)
- Stu VanAirsdale (Film and Culture Writer: The New York Times, New York Magazine, Variety, The Village Voice)

The Grand Jury Award, with a cash prize of $10,000, recognizes the best film from the Jackpot Premieres section. Two Honorable Mention Awards will also be given. A $2,500 prize will be awarded to the winner of the Documentary Jury Award, recognizing the best film from the Pioneer Documentaries section. The 2009 CineVegas Short Film Jury Award recognizes the best film chosen from the Short Films in the Festival, and the winner will be awarded $1,000. The Shorts Jury will also select the best film from the Nevada Short Film program, with a $500 prize.

Dramatic and Documentary Audience Awards will also be selected by CineVegas audience members from all of the narrative and documentary films in the Festival without theatrical distribution.
