CHRIS PINE TO RECEIVE “CINEMACON® MALE STAR OF THE YEAR AWARD”

PARAMOUNT PICTURES TO RELEASE PINE’S LATEST FILM, “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS,” ON MAY 17, 2013

WASHINGTON D.C. (March 14, 2013) – Chris Pine will receive the “CinemaCon® Male Star of the Year Award” at this year’s CinemaCon, it was announced today by the convention’s Managing Director Mitch Neuhauser. CinemaCon, the largest and most important convention for the motion picture theatre industry, will be held April 15-18, 2013 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas at which time more than 5,000 industry members will be gathering. Pine will be presented with this special honor at the “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony on Thursday evening, April 18, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.

"With this summer's 'Star Trek Into Darkness,' the eagerly anticipated follow-up to 2009's 'Star Trek,' and then at year-end, the release of 'Jack Ryan,' without a doubt, 2013 is going to be Chris Pine's year," noted Neuhauser. "Chris Pine has emerged as one of Hollywood's hottest and most accomplished young actors and CinemaCon is thrilled to honor him as its 2013 ‘Male Star of the Year.’"

Pine can next be seen in “Star Trek Into Darkness” from Paramount Pictures on May 17, 2013. This explosive action thriller, directed by J.J. Abrams, will see the crew of The Enterprise called back home to Earth in the wake of a shocking act of terror from within their own organization. Captain Kirk leads his crew on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice. Following that, Pine will star in “Jack Ryan” for Paramount Pictures, in which he will play the film’s title character, based on bestselling author Tom Clancy’s popular action hero. The film also stars Keira Knightley and Kevin Costner, and will open in theaters December 25, 2013.

Pine graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. His most recent film credits include DreamWorks Animation’s “Rise of the Guardians,” Touchstone Pictures’ drama “People Like Us,” and the 20th Century Fox action-comedy “This Means War.” His additional film credits include “Unstoppable,” “Star Trek,” “Bottle Shock” and “Smokin’ Aces,” among others. On the stage, Pine most recently could be seen in “The Lieutenant of Inishmore,” for which he received the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Best Lead Performance Award. His theater work also includes performances in Geffen Playhouse productions of “Farragut North” and “Fat Pig” and multiple productions at The Williamstown Theatre Festival, among many others.
