SHOWEST 2010 TO HONOR GEORGIA THEATRE COMPANY’S BILL STEMBLER WITH “SHOWESTER OF THE YEAR” AWARD

LOS ANGELES — William J. Stembler, Chairman and CEO of Georgia Theatre Company, will be honored as the “ShoWester of the Year” at the 2010 ShoWest Convention, it was announced today by Robert Sunshine, Managing Director of the annual event.  The award presentation will take place at ShoWest’s Final Night Banquet and Award Ceremony on Thursday, March 18, at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas.

“Each year, ShoWest strives to honor an individual who, throughout their career, has demonstrated a dedication to the betterment of the exhibition industry and its causes,” said Sunshine. “Since 1973, Bill Stembler’s dedication to the motion picture industry and passion for the silver screen has been unparalleled; and we are thrilled to honor him as the 2010 ShoWester of the Year.”

Stembler joined Georgia Theatre Company in September 1973 as House Counsel and Vice President of related theatre companies, handling legal matters, site selection and new theatre development. He was named President in 1983. After the sale of the theatre circuit to United Artists in 1986, Stembler became Vice President of UA until 1988 when he left to form and become president of several new theatre companies. In 1991, Georgia Theatre Company-II was formed and has grown to become one of the twenty largest circuits in the US. The company operates 272 screens in 27 locations in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Virginia. Stembler has served as a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the National Association of Theatre Owners, as well as serving on their executive and finance committees.

Past recipients of the “ShoWester of the Year” award have included Tony and Dean Kerasotes, Ellis Jacob, MaryAnn & J. Wayne Anderson, Peter Brown, Stephen Marcus, T.G. “Teddy” Solomon, Phil Harris, Michael Campbell, Kurt Hall, Bruce Corwin and Lee Roy Mitchell.

ShoWest is the largest annual convention for the motion picture industry. It is the only international gathering devoted exclusively to the movie business and the single largest international gathering of motion picture professionals and theatre owners in the world. The 2010 edition of ShoWest will be held March 15 – 18, 2010 at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas and is expected to draw more than 5,000 members of the motion picture industry.  Each year, ShoWest attracts delegates from more than 50 countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.  ShoWest is produced by the Film Group of e5 Global Media. The Film Group also includes ShowEast, CineAsia, Cinema Expo International and Film Journal International. e5 Global Media also produces the Film Group’s sister publication, The Hollywood Reporter.
