Horrible Bosses 2 | Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Christoph Waltz, Chris Pine, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey | Review

The hapless trio of buddies is back and this time they’re the bosses.  Well meaning but slow thinking, Nick (Jason Bateman) Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day) attempt to market their patented gadget Shower Buddy to a retail giant run by uber-mogul Bert Hansen (Christoph Waltz) and his ultra d-bag son Rex (Chris Pine).  The deal is wildly lucrative; unfortunately the guys are as inept at business ventures as they were at murder.

When they’re betrayed by Bert Hansen, the guys come up with a scheme that will net the trio $500,000, enough to save their fledgling company from bankruptcy and buyout.  Once again, the not-too-bright fellas turn to crime – with a twist – and the twist’s name is Rex Hansen.

There are further betrayals and double crosses after a series of ludicrous and improbable events pit the guys against law enforcement for an utterly predictable ending – one of many predictable instances in the crass, lowbrow proceedings.

Jennifer Aniston reprises her role as hypersexual dentist, Dr. Julia Harris; her first monologue could make a sailor blush, as they say, with a positively wince-inducing commentary on male organs

Kevin Spacey returns briefly as Nick’s imprisoned former boss Dave Harken, good for a few expletive-filled rants.  Jamie Foxx’s “MF” Jones is back dispensing criminal know-how like a…well, like the “MF” he is, bless his Oscar-winning heart.  Come to think of it, Christoph Waltz is an Oscar winner, as well.  The two must like to take an occasional detour from taste and quality (or possibly good judgment) once in a while.

The VERY LOUD soundtrack (and no, I don’t mean fashion-wise) will almost have you holding your ears, especially Charlie Day’s Dale, who shrieks his lines in a euphoria of neuroses.  Others just yell, panic, or overact to keep eardrums vibrating.  Jason Bateman, as usual, plays the most level-headed member of the entrepreneurs, with Jason Sudeikis as the howling horndog who hires-by-hotness.

Continual wiseass camaraderie between the three anti-heroes provides some relief (in rare instances) from seemingly endless vignettes of vulgar slapstick, stupidity, and offensive racist and sexist humor.  All in a day’s work, I guess.

Director Sean Anders (Hot Tub Time Machine) provides better outtakes at the end of the film than the viewer will experience sitting through it.  If there’s an audience for the film, it‘s frat boys, middle school boys, adolescent boys, and inebriated bachelor party revelers.

Everyone else will want to take a vacation day, or at least call in sick.
